In the previous study, NMD 11 Rev 11,  we heard the 7th Trumpet sounding. In NMD 12a Rev 12 Mean Time 3a there are more heavenly background comments and a Woman and a Dragon are mentioned, we will see who they are. This part is called NMD 12a Rev 12 Mean Time 3a and covers Revelation 12:1-12.

In the beginning of this study I have told you to take the Bible as it is written unless otherwise indicated in the Bible. This is such an example where it is written “A great sign appeared in heaven”. At this great sign in Heaven three individuals play an important part of this great sign. These three individuals are: a Woman, a Dragon and a Son. The apostle describes it as a great sign. A great sign is, for example, a performance or a painting of something or a symbol. The fact that John writes about a great sign proves that in general the Apocalypse should be understood as it is literally written. So the writer indicates whether or not when the text is to be taken literally. In this part he wrote about a great sign.

Woman closed with the sun

The first sign is a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. The woman was about to give birth of a Son under great difficulty. The Son appears as a King but suddenly dies after which the Woman falls prey to persecution.
Actually there is generally not much doubt about who the Son is. Most people recognise the Messiah, Jesus Christ in it. Verse 5 also makes a reference to a male child, a son. The original text says a “Son, a male child”. In this text we don’t find any explanation or link to a church, nor Christianity or a confession of faith. All that is written is about a person “a male child“. The child is in verse 5 snatched to God which reminds us of the violent crucifixion of Jesus.
